NEXT YEAR: We will return to The Wedgwood Visitor Centre for the 2006 event, which
will take place on
SUNDAY 14 MAY. See you there. Read the 2005
report...
Gents,
Thanks for the kind
words in your review of our 2005 Wedgwood rally. I organise the running
day side of things which always results in many grey hairs and much hair
loss!! Rally entry forms for 2006 are available by email, or by post from
Paul Pearson, 10 Osborne Road, Hartshill, Stoke on Trent ST4 7PF. All
being well there should be 25+ vehicles on the 2006 running day with up to
12 departures per hour 1030-1630, on at least 8 different routes.
Anyway, as promised info
on my two vehicles....
147 BEH147H
Daimler SRG36/6LX /
Alexander W Type B40D
New to PMT in April
1970, entered service July 1970. Was in a batch of 21 (140-160). 147 was
allocated to Hanley, Stafford and Burslem depots respectively through the
1970's. 16 of the batch sold to Belfast Citibus in 1977. Of the remaining
5, Fleet No.147 went on hire to East Kent in Spring 1978, and was later
joined by the other 4. They were all repainted into Sea-Speed livery for
the hovercraft services and based at Dover depot. Withdrawn in the early
1980's 147 passed to RAF cadets in Bedfordshire. Purchased for
preservation in 2000. Purchase by me in 2002, restored and repainted
2002/2003.
207 PVT207L
Bristol RESL6L / ECW
B44F
New to PMT in December
1972, one of a batch of 26 relatively rare short RE's, with Leyland 0.680
engines. Spent time allocated to Stoke, Milton, Hanley and Newcastle
depots. Most of the RESL's withdrawn 1980-1982, leaving only 198, 204 and
207. 198 was converted 1982 into a publicity bus. 204 withdrawn 1986. By
deregulation date, 207 was the only RESL still in service, and received
new Red & Yellow PMT zip-stripe livery and was allocated to their new
Crewe area venture. Withdrawn 1989(ish), 207 then went to Delta Coachways
(??) and later to Hastings & District. Purchased for preservation in 2000
by Terry Hussey & friends in Hampshire for spares, it was later decided to
restore the vehicle. Purchased by me May 2005.
Next year's Wedgwood
event, will also see the appearance of the following vehicles.....
198 JEH 198K - Bristol
RESL6L / ECW - the former publicity bus is currently being converted back
to a service bus and will be in operation on the running day, carrying
passengers for the first time since conversion in April 1982!!
340 G340 XRE - Mercedes
811 / PMT Engineering - rumour has it that the PMT-bodied Merc has been
saved for preservation, and will hopefully be making it to the 2006 rally.
More on this one, when I can find out more info.
604 OEH 604M - Bristol
VRTSL6G / ECW - recently purchased by POPS, this extra-low height (13'5")
series 2 VRT will also be attending the rally and working on the running
day.
747 A747 JRE - Leyland
Olympian / ECW - about to leave First PMT into preservation, it will be
restored and will be at the rally, and hopefully on the running day. This
is almost certain to be the only PMT Olympian to be saved.
If you need any more
information please let me know.
Thanks
Mark Plant
