As we were travelling on a bus to be entered into the
rally, we had to be up early. Robert picked me up at 0610 and we set off
for the Yorkshire Traction Garage at Barnsley.
Whilst at the 'Tracky' garage we saw what a
brilliant set up they have, including the engineering workshops and the
massive National Express garage. One thing that caught my eye was the way
they rebuild buses bought from other operations. An example was the Volvo
Olympians from London. Completely refurbished including all new glass and
new electronic destination signs.
We left 'Tracky' at around 0730 in a Volvo B6 - Alexander
and headed for the 'Potteries', arriving at the 'Wedgwood Visitor Centre'
where the rally was held, at around 0930.
There was a hive of activity already, most of the stalls
were laid out and over 30 buses of various description had arrived before
we did. The weather was very kind to
us, although the bright sunshine meant we had to wait until mid afternoon
to photograph many of the exhibits. There were many preserved vehicles
offering a choice of trips throughout the day. I settled for an old
'National' Which brought back memories of my time on the 'Inner Circle'
route in Doncaster and an 'Atlantean' which took us down to Stoke railway
station, where we had lunch and caught the same bus back an hour later.
The event was very well organised and also well attended.
We will definitely be going again in 2006. One point to mention here is
the fact that 'Wedgwood' provided the rally organisers with the main car
park for the event, which meant, no muddy shoes! Another plus was the fact
that there was no admission charge. The organisers relied solely on
donations.

'Potteries - Rally and Running Day'
report. (Scroll down and click on 'Rally'.) These brief reports cannot
possibly convey the atmosphere of the day. I'm sure everyone that attended
had a marvellous day out.
Below are a few thumbnails of the
'Potteries - Rally and Running Day'. A CD
will be available shortly, crammed with as many of the exhibits as
possible. The CD will have around 60 photo's of the event and will be
priced so everyone can afford it. One or two exhibits were awkward to
photograph because of the vast numbers of visitors.
