History in the making. Doncaster's new international airport was opened to passengers today (Thursday 28th April 2005). The first flight - to Palma - took off at 0915hrs. Putting Doncaster firmly on the international map the new airport, owned by 'Peel Holdings' means a major boost to the local economy. Apart from the hundreds of extra jobs the airport brings to the area the addition of an international airport will not harm the towns bid for 'city status'.
